“Brotha Ray” Johnson.
Rayford L. Johnson, affectionately known as “Brotha Ray,” is a retired Correctional Counselor for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation with over 30 years of experience in law enforcement, ministry, and media. He is a Certified Gang Specialist, Life Skills Trainer, Photojournalist, Author, and Licensed Minister dedicated to exposing darkness and offering spiritual solutions for healing and transformation through Jesus Christ.
With more than three decades of experience as a correctional counselor, Johnson has worked directly with incarcerated individuals and gang members in California’s prison system. His firsthand observations of the criminal justice system and gang culture inform his powerful ministry and written works. As a certified gang specialist, he brings credible, evidence-based insights into the mentality and motivations of those involved in gang and thug lifestyle.
Johnson’s career as a photojournalist spans over 30 years, with freelance work for major entertainment publications, celebrity award shows, and television outlets including BET. Through this work, he has gained unique access to and understanding of the entertainment industry’s influence on culture and society.
Johnson has served as a parenting, domestic violence, and anger management instructor for the court system, teaching in jails and community settings. His evidence-based approach to life skills training has impacted thousands of individuals seeking to transform their lives and break cycles of violence.
As a volunteer chaplain in prisons, jails, and juvenile halls, Johnson brings spiritual guidance and hope to those in the criminal justice system. His ministry focuses on healing, deliverance, and redemption through Jesus Christ.
